Dutch Revival: A Celebration of Timeless Art and Modern Design
Nuwave Gallery is thrilled to present Dutch Revival, an art show that brings together the work of four talented artists: Brooke Westlund, Jen Chambers, Aislinn Hematyar, and gallery owner Erin Oostra. This exhibition seeks to capture the timeless beauty and innovative spirit of Dutch art, celebrated for its balanced compositions, limited palettes, and luminous clarity. Drawing inspiration from the minimalist, experimental, and quirky nature of Dutch design, these artists offer a fresh, modern interpretation of the classic style.
The Netherlands, known for its informal, friendly, and welcoming culture, reflects these values in its art. Dutch design is minimalist yet innovative, quirky yet functional. In Dutch Revival, each artist channels this aesthetic, fusing their personal styles with the spirit of Dutch artistry. The result is a show that blends traditional elements with contemporary flair, offering a unique visual experience that is both rooted in history and forward-looking.
Meet the Artists
Brooke Westlund, a Seattle-based artist, has been creating mixed media and abstract paintings for over 13 years in her studio at Pike Place Market. Known for her exploration of texture, color, and form, Brooke’s work invites viewers into a dynamic and immersive visual journey.
Jen Chambers draws from her interpretation of nature, weaving together movement and serenity in her pieces. Her work, known for its calming presence, incorporates heavy textures, organic flowing strokes, and a soothing color palette, creating a balance between abstraction and tranquility.
Aislinn Hematyar, a Central Washington-based artist, is inspired by the delicate interplay between water and color. Her work highlights the way pigments blend and bleed, creating soft, flowing compositions that reflect the movement of water.
Erin Oostra, owner of Nuwave Gallery, is a Pacific Northwest-based artist known for her contemporary mountain and ocean paintings, abstract art, and digital collages. Erin’s work captures the rugged beauty of the natural world, offering a sense of tranquility and inspiration through her bold, atmospheric pieces.
A Unique Fusion of Past and Present
Dutch Revival invites viewers to explore the intersection of tradition and innovation. The show not only pays homage to the balanced, luminous compositions of Dutch art but also brings in the contemporary influences of each artist, creating a bridge between the past and the present. This unique blend of styles offers a fresh perspective on what it means to embrace both the classic and the modern, with each piece reflecting a thoughtful interpretation of Dutch design’s timeless yet experimental nature.
Join us at Nuwave Gallery for an inspiring evening of art, where we celebrate the beauty of Dutch design reimagined through the eyes of these talented contemporary artists. The exhibition will be part of Ellensburg’s special 25th Anniversary Art Walk on October 4th, making it a night to remember with live music by local band Jukebox Central and the unveiling of a new mural right next to the gallery.
