“Paper Trails” Poster Show at Nuwave Gallery Highlights CWU DESIGN Student POSTERS and Ellensburg Conservation

Nuwave Gallery in Ellensburg, Washington, continues to bridge the gap between emerging artists and the local community with its latest exhibition, "Paper Trails: Conservation and the Spirit of Ellensburg." This collaborative showcase features the creative works of Central Washington University (CWU) design students alongside esteemed local artists, reflecting Nuwave Gallery's ongoing commitment to fostering artistic talent and environmental awareness.

Building upon the success of last year’s “Winged Wonders” exhibition—where CWU students were challenged to design posters celebrating the region’s birding community—“Paper Trails” invites this next generation of creatives to explore themes of conservation, sustainability, and what it truly means to capture the essence of Ellensburg. The show features bold, thoughtful, and visually impactful poster designs from students currently enrolled in CWU’s graphic design program.

For these students, this show is much more than a classroom project—it’s an incredible real-world opportunity to have their work professionally exhibited in a public gallery space. From concepting and critiquing to preparing files for print and installation, students experience the full creative process from start to finish. They learn how to pitch ideas, respond to feedback, meet deadlines, and see their work hanging next to professional artists—all invaluable lessons that extend far beyond the classroom.

The posters are printed and hung with care on Nuwave Gallery’s Walls—transforming student work into gallery-ready pieces that are available for purchase. Many students are showing their work to the public for the very first time, and the experience of having a piece bought by someone in the community is a huge milestone. It validates their voice as a designer, and for many, it sparks the belief that they really can make a living doing what they love.

Nuwave Gallery has established itself as a cornerstone of Ellensburg’s vibrant arts scene—not only by showcasing a diverse range of professional artists, but by actively investing in the next generation of creatives. This partnership with CWU reflects the gallery’s mission to be more than just a space for art—it’s a space for growth, mentorship, and connection.

We encourage art lovers, parents, CWU alumni, and community members to come see "Paper Trails” in person. By purchasing art from this show, you’re directly supporting the creative journey of young artists—and celebrating the spirit of Ellensburg in the process.
